Try This Fun DIY: The Carbon Sugar Snake
How about getting your hands on creating a “Carbon Sugar Snake” (DIY)?
If you are badly missing the fun of Diwali crackers, lighting everywhere, and dense smoke, this experiment will truly excite your imagination.
Learn how a burning mixture of baking soda and sugar can create a stunning carbon snake.
DIY Procedure
- In a bowl, combine 4 tsp of powdered sugar with 1 tsp of baking soda.
- Fill the pie tin with sand and create a small mound in the middle. Use your knuckle to make an indent in the middle of the mound.
- Pour lighter fluid on the mound and in the indentation. Make sure that the sand is well soaked.
- Spoon your sugar and baking soda mix into the centre of the mound.
- Carefully light the sand near the sugar mixture.
Result
The sugar and baking soda mix will begin to bubble and turn black.
A snake will begin to form and continue to burn for over 20 mins.
